Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill: Our Position

NAIRO has written to The Lord Watson of Invergowrie in support of his proposed amendment to insert Remedial Orders for Children in Care after Clause 9 of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill.

In our letter, we stated:

*”NAIRO has for a long time been concerned about the difficulties of access to the family court by parties concerned that children may be at risk of significant harm in the care system.

In relation to IROs, we have been able to access the court only through referral to CAFCASS—who may or may not then take the matter forward. While this may sometimes be an appropriate route, there have been occasions when CAFCASS has not enabled timely access.”*

We’ve offered our full support to this amendment and expressed our willingness to assist further in any way.
