Mission and Vision

Mission:
Our mission is to enhance the well-being and prospects of children and young people in care by providing Independent Reviewing Officers (IROs) with the resources, training, and support they need to advocate effectively.

Vision:
Our vision is a society where every child and young person in care benefits from the informed, independent support of an IRO, empowering them to reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.

 

Who We Are

We are a dedicated community of professionals and advocates committed to the well-being of children and young adults in the care system. Our association includes practicing IROs, aspiring IROs, care-experienced young people, and other individuals and organisations who share our aims and objectives.

What unites us is our commitment to:
Ensure children and young people in care have a voice and are heard.
Provide IROs with ongoing training and professional development.
Advocate for the rights and welfare of children and young people in care.

What We Do

Our overriding aim is to improve outcomes for looked after children and young people in England and Wales. To achieve this aim we are committed to working with other organisations such as Article 39, CAFCASS, NIROMP, ADCS and other relevant organisations to influence the legal, policy and practice framework to benefit children and young people in care and care leavers.

NAIRO works to strengthen the understanding of the IRO role amongst children and young people, and children and family services across the statutory and voluntary sectors.

Becoming a member of NAIRO enables you to become part of a community of IRO practitioners which offers support, encouragement and advice.

This is through :
Membership of the Google group.
Participation in the IRO annual conference at a reduced cost.
Reduced cost of learning and development events
The opportunity to influence law policy and practice and to participate in NAIRO campaigns.

History

Founded in 2014, NAIRO has been a cornerstone for IROs and the care community for over 9 years. Our humble beginnings were rooted in a shared aspiration to improve the IRO role and ensure the best possible outcomes for young people in care.

Over the years, we have:
Conducted numerous training programs, benefiting hundreds of IROs.
Successfully advocated for policy changes that have improved the care system.
Hosted annual conferences, bringing together experts, IROs, and young people in care to share knowledge and insights.
Published reports and research to further inform best practices in the care system.

We are more than just an association; we are a movement dedicated to change and improve the care system. We invite you to join us in this important work. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of children and young people in care.
